"Keep your promises to the poor!"
Concord Danmark has together with the international aid watchdog AidWatch launched the first citizen initiative called Keep your promises to the poor!
Keep your promises to the poor! puts focus on the fact that only six member states of the EU are paying the development aid that all member states in 2005 agreed on paying.
The richest countries (EU-15) agreed to pay 0,51% of the GNI in official development assistance (ODA) every year, while the poorer countries (EU-12) agreed to pay 0,17% of their GNI. These numbers are very small so it is neither difficult, unfair nor unrealistic to meet the promises. These numbers represent the 2010-midterm reviews. The EU has like the UN defined development goals (MDG) and to reach these the ODA for 2015 is set even higher: The EU-15 has promised to pay 0,7% of their GNI in 2015 and the EU-12 has promised to pay 0,33%. These goals seem very unrealistic now if the countries don’t take action.
That is why Concord Danmark is collecting signatures from citizens all over Europe who believe that we should take responsibility and keep our promises to the poor regarding development aid. So please click on the link provided below to show your support for this important initiative.
